Biography:
Spawn, created by Todd McFarlane, debuted in 1992 in *Spawn* #1 from Image Comics. Originally a highly trained CIA operative named Albert Francis "Al" Simmons, he was betrayed and murdered by his colleague, Bruce Stinson (Chapel).
Upon arriving in Hell, Simmons made a deal with Malebolgia, one of Hell's rulers, to see his wife Wanda Blake again. He was transformed into a Hellspawn, a creature of Hell destined to serve in its army. However, he was returned to Earth five years later, vastly changed and with little memory of his past life.
Spawn's powers include superhuman strength, speed, and durability, as well as the ability to manipulate his symbiotic suit, which is a living organism called a K7-Leetha. This suit grants him necromantic powers, the ability to shapeshift, teleport, and project necroplasm.
Haunted by his past and disillusioned by the deal he made, Spawn becomes a vigilante, protecting the downtrodden and fighting against both the forces of Heaven and Hell in a constant battle for his soul.
